11 things to do this weekend in Pittsburgh: free fun, live music, disco golf and more

It’s hard to believe it’s the last weekend in July, but don’t let the fast-approaching school year slow your fun! Check out all the things to do this weekend in Pittsburgh, from festivals to free library events (and have you visited Daedalum yet?).

Wednesday, July 26 – Saturday, July 29: New Galilee Carnival

This fun-packed carnival features rides, games, food and more. There’s even a free fireworks show on Saturday evening! You’ll also find a car cruise and a DJ just for kids. Rides are free this year courtesy of Norfolk Southern Railroad, too. Find the details here

Friday, July 28: Story Time at Schenley Plaza, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

 Kids ages 5 and younger will enjoy a story reading, followed by free rides on the PNC Carousel. Registration required.

Friday, July 28: Final Fridays Disco Golf Party at Schenley Park and Schenley Plaza, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Gather with friends or family to play 18-holes on Schenley Park’s classic disc golf course. Then, head to Schenley Plaza where you’ll putt the 19th Hole and join the after party. Begin at the 19th Hole with rental discs, discs for sale, and putting practice on the Final Friday of each month through October. Best for ages 14 and older. No registration required.

Friday, July 28: Summer Fridays at The Frick, 5 p.m.

The final Friday of each month, the Frick Museum features live music, food, and family-friendly activities at no cost (food is purchased separately). The museum is open throughout the event, also. (The Frick mentions that pets, scooters, bikes, and sports equipment are not a fit for this event, even though it is held on a lawn. There are bike racks available at the entrance, if you arrived on two wheels.) Find more details here. It’s gonna be Frick-in’ awesome.

Friday, July 28: E-Parks at Schenley Plaza, 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Join like-minded gamers as you play video games projected on the Schenley Plaza Oval Tent, enjoy a Smash Brothers tournament with giveaways and listen to beats from a guest DJ. This all-ages event is sponsored by Schell Games. Registration is free.

Saturday, July 29: Science Bus at CLP South Side, 1 p.m.

Have you ever been on the Science Bus? This free event is the perfect chance to check it out! There are bones and skulls to explore as well as experiments to complete and more. Check out all the details here.

Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30: Hill District Arts Festival

This free event features a silent disco, live performances, a celebration of local art, and lots of delicious food. The Hill District has long been a hub of Black excellence, creativity, and innovation in Pittsburgh — come check it out! Find the details here

Sunday, July 30: Open Streets Pittsburgh, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Bring your bike, stroller, pogo stick or your own two feet to the final Open Streets event of the summer. This route, which will go though Downtown and the Southside, features magic shows, pop-up art, local sports celebrities and lots of wild costumes. Feel free to dress up! Open Streets Pittsburgh is a free event. 

Sunday, June 30: Opening celebration for the Waterfront Paws & Play Dog Playground, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Waterfront is inviting people to stop by with their furry friends (on leashes) to enjoy music and activities, and giveaways of free collapsible dog bowls and dog treats…and some human treats, too! They’ll be accepting monetary donations for Animal Lifeline during the event and will have two special guests, Chase and Skye from Paw Patrol, for meet-and-greet photos. Sunday, July 30: TacoMania Super Fest at South Side Works, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

This event has music, tacos, adult beverages, live wrestling, music and more. Dance to a mariachi band and enjoy food from 12 different taco trucks. Those under 21 are only $6. Find all the details here

Sunday, July 30: Sensory-Friendly Azure Family Concert Series at Schenley Plaza, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. 

This concert takes place in a sensory-friendly environment that features live music, during which audience members are welcome to sit, stand, walk around and dance. All behaviors are welcome. Registration is free.
