My Favorite Pittsburgh Thing To Do With Kids: Christin Thorpe of Ozzie & Me Foundation

Visiting the neighborhood Carnegie Library is one of Christin Thorpe and son Ozzie’s favorite things to do in Pittsburgh.

“I enjoy the library because it allows Ozzie to have fun and connect with other kids in our community,” says Christin, who lives with her 4-year-old son in Brighton Heights.

“Our time exploring the different books is special because it gives me an opportunity to see the things that pique his interest. Likewise, I can teach him about things from the past and cultures around the world without ever leaving my neighborhood.

“I love the library because not only is it a fun place to visit, but it helps us have special bonding time at home over great stories.”

That community engagement is essential to Christin, who sits on the YWCA’s Young Leader’s Board and the Policy Committee for the Day One Project. Currently working as the Community Engagement Leader at Thrivent, she spreads their mission of helping Christians be wise with money and live generously.

Christin also is the founder of the Ozzie & Me Scholarship Foundation with the mission to inspire young women to overcome the obstacles of motherhood and reach their academic goals.

This young woman is inspired by and dedicated to Ozzie.

“I know one day Ozzie won’t be my little baby anymore,” Christin says. “He will be an adult and can travel the world and experience a myriad of things.

“Family time allows us to learn about each other, the world, and establish our family values. During our family time, we create memories I hope he carries with him forever. I want the time we spend together, and the lessons he learns from that time to be something he values and holds on to even if he’s miles away.”
