Your family can help share the love by baking Jasmine Cho’s ‘love letter cookies’

Several years ago, Kidsburgh had the fun of co-hosting video baking tutorials with Pittsburgh-based, artist, author and cookie activist Jasmine Cho. Jasmine, a Food Network Champion (“Christmas Cookie Challenge”) who is known for using portrait cookies to elevate representation for Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders, shared with us a step-by-step tutorial on how to bake “love letter cookies.”

We know that families are always looking for ways to help kids learn about and express kindness and caring. So as Valentine’s Day 2026 approaches, we wanted to share again this fun video tutorial.

Click here for the recipe and instructions and watch the video below for this edible Valentine’s Day maker project.

You can learn pro tips to make Jasmine’s award-winning vanilla bean (or chocolate) sugar cookies with royal icing. Then you can bake the sugar cookie dough into Love Letter Cookies that unveil hidden messages inside.

Watch the video below for step-by-step instructions. (Note: For some reason, YouTube seems to start this video in the middle. Just rewind to the beginning to watch the entire tutorial.)
