Pittsburgh Public Schools has released their schedule of public hearings on recommended school building closures under the district’s Future-Ready Facilities Plan. This follows the board of directors’ vote on June 23 to authorize these hearings.

In an announcement to local media, PPS said these hearings will “give families, staff, students and community members a chance to share input directly with the district board.”

These public hearings will be held at the PPS Administration Building in Oakland at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on:

  • Monday, July 21
  • Tuesday, July 22
  • Monday, July 28
  • Tuesday, July 29
  • Wednesday, July 30

If you’d like to speak at the public hearings, you need to register online. Registration for each meeting will open one week prior to the date of that meeting and will close at 5:00 p.m. on the day before that hearing. Written statements are also accepted and will be added to the public record.

In addition, PPS has announced a series of Community Conversations and Community Kickbacks to further engage the public, provide plan updates and collect input. The first Community Conversation happens Wednesday, July 9, at Pittsburgh Sunnyside. The first Community Kickback will be on Thursday, July 24, at Pittsburgh King.

No final decision on school closures will be made until the board votes to approve the superintendent’s Reconfiguration Plan, following presentation of an implementation strategy. Visit www.pghschools.org/futurePPS for full schedules and www.pghschools.org/publichearing to register once registration opens.
