The Hillman Performing Arts Series: Fun for ages 0 to 101!

Looking for an affordable night of fun for the whole family? Don’t miss the Hillman Performing Arts Series, which offers a diverse lineup of shows that are sure to entertain both kids and adults. The shows take place at the Hillman Center for Performing Arts, which is conveniently located in Fox Chapel on the Shady Side Academy Senior School campus, with free parking.
The 2018-2019 series offers more shows than ever before, including a four-show Main Stage Series in the Hillman Center’s 665-seat Richard E. Rauh Theater and a three-show Black Box Series in the smaller, more intimate Peter J. Kountz Theater.

The Main Stage Series features four family-friendly shows that kids will love, including an interactive art performance, ventriloquist, magician and zany jugglers. It kicks off on October 20 with the art performance troupe Artrageous. This unique show mixes captivating vocals, intricate choreography and exciting audience interaction as performers create a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork live on stage. On November 17, ventriloquist and comedienne Lynn Trefzger brings her “trunk full of toys” to the main stage. Audiences will be treated to her vocal illusion talents as they meet her friends – a lovable camel, a grumpy old man and a feisty little girl.

After a break for the holiday season, the Main Stage Series resumes on March 16, 2019, with magician The Amazing Max. Max promises that “every show is unique because every child brought to the stage is unique,” and delivers a custom magic experience that kids will carry with them long after the show ends. A pre-show magic lab is included in the ticket price. Finally, on April 13, 2019, The Flying Karamazov Brothers will close the Main Stage Series with a night full of fun and zany antics. Come and belly-laugh the night away with their wild theatrics, arcane errata and astonishing juggling feats.

Looking for a break from the kids and an inexpensive date night excursion? Book a sitter and check out the Hillman’s three Black Box Series shows. On September 15, join “ChamberSoul” singer-songwriter Shana Tucker for an evening of jazz, soulful folk and acoustic pop music. On December 8, pianist Deanna Witkoski seamlessly combines jazz, Chopin, and the music of Brazil in Raindrop: Improvisations on Chopin. And on March 9, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, Poor Man’s Gambit features traditional Irish musicians who blend Celtic and American music to create a unique and energetic sound. Coffeehouse treats are included with Black Box Series tickets, so be sure to get there early before all the goodies are gone!

The Hillman Series offers several ticketing options for the 2018-2019. Subscription packages are available for three or all four Main Stage Series shows, all three Black Box Series shows, or the entire seven-show Hillman Series for just $50-$145.
