Slide the City bringing 1,000-foot Slip ‘N Slide to Pittsburgh this June

Did you wile away the summer days of your youth diving down a Slip ‘N Slide in your backyard? Now that you’re grown up you can slip and slide in style – and bring the kids along too!

On Saturday June 6, Slide the City will set up its 1000-foot inflatable, padded, vinyl water slide on Sunny Side Slope in South Park two weeks before the June 21 official start of summer. The family-friendly event will also feature live music, food from local vendors and drinks.

The fun started last summer with events in Boise and Salt Lake City. After quickly selling out with 4,000 participants each, organizers decided to take the slide nationwide this year to more than 150 cities from Pensacola to Pittsburgh and Mobile to Maui, says Ryan Johnson event director for Slide the City.

More than 17,000 people from the Pittsburgh region have already signed up to be notified when registration opens. Tickets are available starting at 10 a.m. on April 22. Anyone over 46 inches tall and at least 5 years of age is welcome to slide.

Riders can choose between three ticketing levels. With early registration, a Single Slider ticket costs $20 and gets you one ride down the slide, a mouth guard to protect the pearly whites and some swag. A Triple Slider ticket costs $30 and gets you three trips down the slide, some swag, a mouth guard and a tube to slide on (tubes are required and will be on sale at the event if you forget yours at home). Finally, the VIP Slider ticket costs $50 and gets you all of the above plus unlimited slides as well as permission to slide an hour before opening and an hour after closing, a t-shirt and a hat. Group rates are available if you have 20 or more participants. If that’s the case, send organizers an email. Water buckets, floaties and water guns are also welcome!

Organizers are encouraging participants to carpool to the event as parking may be limited and located a distance from the slide. Once you get there, head to the registration tent, turn in your signed waiver and pick up your wristband and swag.

The slide will operate rain or shine and the last slider will be accepted in line 30 minutes before it closes. Organizers are also looking for volunteers to work the event.
