Rashad Byrdsong: treat poverty epidemic as health-care issue

Rashad Byrdsong, long a community activist via his Community Empowerment Association, tells Huffington Post that poverty and all its roots and effects need to be treated as a public-health problem. And children bear the brunt of the illness, Byrdsong says. “When we begin to look at the disproportionate number of kids being uprooted and taken out of the home — all of that has some type of emotional or psychological impact on families and children,” Byrdsong says.
