PlayDate4Kids, a new Pittsburgh indoor play space for both kids and parents

Pittsburgh’s newest indoor play space, PlayDate4Kids, is somewhere both parents and their children can have their needs met.

“I’ve always felt the guilt of being a working mom and not being with my kids,” says owner and former Kinderdance instructor Rachna Jain. “I wanted PlayDate4Kids to be a fun, family-friendly space where parents could come, relax and maybe even get some work done while their kids play.”

Located on Banksville Road near Dormont, PlayDate4Kids offers 3000 square feet of entertainment space with a fully-equipped playroom, a cafe and free wi-fi. Jain envisions that while many parents will choose to play with their children while there, others will sip a coffee with friends or get some work done in the café.

The cost is $6 for the first child and $5 for each additional child. Kids ages 12 and under can play with a wide range of toys–from Legos and climbing equipment to a rock wall and ball pit. “This place can be molded into any format and be used in a variety of ways,” says Jain, who also hosts birthday parties, meetings, crafting classes and other special events. The space is fully-accessible and welcoming to children with special needs.

PlayDate4Kids also offers a full-service café with coffee, tea, cold drinks, breakfast foods, soups, salads and snacks. And although the café is in direct view of the play space, it also holds closed circuit televisions to help parents keep a closer watch on their kids.

Jain is also the manager of Motel 6 which houses PlayDate4Kids. She originally created the space for her staff’s children, but quickly realized that other families could benefit from the creative merging of work space with play space and opened the facility to the public a few months ago.

PlayDate4Kids is located at 2898 Banksville Road within Motel 6 and is open Tuesday-Thursday 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m.-1 p.m. While PlayDate4Kids has staff on hand to assist in monitoring children, the play facility does not provide a drop-off service.
