Pittsburgh Youth Chorus presents an exciting new season of singing lessons for kids

The Pittsburgh Youth Chorus (PYC) is kicking off the 2021-22 season this September with exciting new changes to benefit young singers of all ages. These changes include a return to in-person choral rehearsals (following appropriate safety protocols), along with an income-based sliding scale for tuition and a new BIPOC Artist-in-Residence program.

At the links below, you can discover more about the wide variety of opportunities for youth.

BIPOC ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM

The new BIPOC Artist-in-Residence program will engage professional BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of color) musicians and conductors in a newly created leadership role within PYC. The selected Artist-in-Residence will select choral repertoire, conduct alongside PYC’s Artistic team, and work with PYC singers to teach how musical traditions rooted in the cultural heritage of BIPOC communities have influenced American music at-large. Michael Warren, the current assistant principal at Pittsburgh King PreK-8 for Pittsburgh Public Schools and the former director of choirs at Avonworth School District, will serve as PYC’s first BIPOC Artist-in-Residence beginning this fall.
