Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s ‘Peter Pan’ is an imaginative event for the whole family!
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre (PBT) will premiere a new version of “Peter Pan” for its season opener October 25-27 at the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh. This new version, choreographed by Trey Mcintyre, is a fresh interpretation of the classic tale told through the eyes of a child. The family-friendly ballet includes spectacular flying, swashbuckling sword fights and imaginative costumes inspired by punk fashion.
This version of “Peter Pan” closely follows the traditional book by J.M. Barrie and includes most of the beloved characters. A few plot points have changed, including that Peter is one of the Darling children who got lost and ended up in Neverland. The costumes are more modern with a rock-n-roll vibe and more character-driven than the ones in the 1953 Disney movie.
“We are thrilled to premiere Trey McIntyre’s exciting vision of ‘Peter Pan’ in Pittsburgh,” said Adam W. McKinney, artistic director at Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. “We are proud to have this magical, family-friendly ballet as part of our Emerald Season.”
The ballet is versatile and appeals to both kids and adults. Children enjoy the familiar story, colorful costumes, amusing theatrics and entertaining dancing. While adults also enjoy those elements, they also appreciate the story of growing up.
According to acclaimed “Peter Pan” choreographer McIntyre, “The story of ‘Peter Pan’ is universal: making the decisions about what kind of adult you will be. How much we can keep our childlike sense of awe and wonder. ‘Peter Pan,’ in particular, pulls out all the stops in transporting the audience to someplace that inspires.”
