Your Oct. 3-5 weekend fun guide: Oktoberfest Downtown, Swiftie events and more
This weekend kicks off October with a lineup of family fun ranging from Halloween-themed events to celebrations of fall — and everything in between. Before you finalize those weekend plans, check out these top Pittsburgh events:
Thursday, Oct. 2-Sunday, Oct. 12: Oktoberfest Pittsburgh
The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership kicks off the weekend early with the return of Oktoberfest. Festival-goers can immerse themselves in German-inspired activities for all ages as well as the return of the Ferris Wheel on the Clemente Bridge. Highlights include the ever-popular Stein Holding, as well as an array of Karneval games. Adding to the festive atmosphere, an Oompah band and Bavarian-style musicians will fill the air with accordion melodies and lively polka tunes. Find all the details here.
Friday, Oct. 3-Sunday, Oct. 5: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl at The Lindsay Theater
Bring your little Swifties to Sewickley for a weekend of viewing Taylor Swift’s latest music video, “The Fate of Ophelia,” along with behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot, brand new lyric videos, and Taylor Swift’s never-before-seen personal reflections on songs from her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” Tickets are $12, and it is strongly suggested to purchase them ahead of time.
Saturday, Oct. 4: Hello Kitty Cafe Truck at Ross Park Mall, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck is returning to the region this weekend. Come say hello near The Cheesecake Factory & LL Bean and pick up some super-cute treats and merch while supplies last. Last year, this event had a long line, so arrive early to ensure there is still merchandise left for your child (or yourself!) Find more info here.

Saturday, Oct. 4: Kids Club at Cookie Cookie Ice Cream, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
This class occurs on the first Saturday of each month during the school year. There are two sessions at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., where kids will learn various baking techniques, and there’s no need to sign up for a whole series. Come once, or come every month! The cost is $10 and registration is limited.
Saturday, Oct. 4: “Let’s Learn Chess” at Pittsburgh Chess Week, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Did you know that October 1-8 is Chess Week Pittsburgh? There are events all week long, but this Downtown session is designed to teach kids and grown-ups alike the basics of the game. There will be giant chess boards, pop-up lessons by experienced instructors, live music, open play, and more fun for families. Find all the details here.
Saturday, Oct. 4: The Electric Playground at Hazelwood Green, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Join Hazelwood Local for The Electric Playground, a free community celebration that brings together games, performances and hands-on activities for all ages. Hosted in partnership with Hazelwood Local and the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, this event will feature a live concert by Squonk, free video game trials, STEAM showcases, and more than 30 food and retail vendors. The Electric Playground isn’t just about fun — it’s a chance to highlight the incredible creativity, culture and innovation happening across the Steel City, all in one exciting afternoon. Saturday, Oct. 4: Taylor Swift Skate at Neville Island Rollerdrome, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Celebrate the release of “The Life of a Showgirl” with two hours of skating to Taylor’s top hits. This event is for all ages. Admission is $15 and skate rental is $3. There are concessions on site for purchase as well. Buy tickets in advance here.
Sunday, Oct. 5: Pittsburgh Reptile Show and Sale, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Discover the region’s largest selection of reptiles and exotics this weekend at the Pittsburgh Mills Mall. You’ll see a huge variety of snakes, geckos, bearded dragons, frogs, inverts, bioactive plants and isopods — plus enclosures, lighting, heating, décor, feeders, and specialty supplies. Sunday, Oct. 5: Neighborhood Flea at Schenley Plaza, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
If you like arts, crafts and curious finds, this event is for you. Shop all of the fun goodies locals have come to love from The Neighborhood Flea. Find sellers featuring vintage items, collections, clothing, handmade, small batch food, up-cycled goods, services, oddities, novelties and more. Bring your reusable bag for purchases and a blanket to sit under the trees for a picnic lunch from food trucks and food sellers. Park in the Carnegie Museum or Soldiers and Sailors parking lots, or find on-street parking. This event is also easily accessible via PRT, walking or by bike. Find out more here.

Sunday, Oct. 5: Riverview Park Day, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
