My Favorite Pittsburgh Thing To Do With Kids: Patrick Jordan of barebones
As an actor and theater director, Patrick Jordan looks to the local cultural scene when it comes to entertaining his daughter, Pepper.
Narrowing in on that one favorite thing to do with Pepper is a bit more complicated.
“I have so many amazing memories of growing up here,” he says. “It’s impossible to pick just one! We have world-class museums and incredible resources – like the Pittsburgh Zoo and Children’s Museum, Aviary, and Phipps – that we love, of course.”
Patrick, founder and artistic director of barebones productions, and his wife Eileen French Jordan, a partner in Revive Marketing Group, live in Point Breeze with their 19-month-old daughter. They revel in introducing Pepper to all that Pittsburgh offers to families.
“Eileen and I want her to experience as much as she can so that she’s well-rounded,” he says. “Plus, Pepper really loves music. The festivals, the music, the special performances, and cultural events – that’s where it’s at for us. Any place that is producing quality programming is always on our agenda. Pepper is finally old enough to get down at Weather Permitting (a weekly concert series) this coming summer, so we’re really looking forward to that.”
Living in his hometown, among old friends and close family, is part of Patrick’s makeup and dedication to his little girl.
“I have a family who is tight,” he says, “but I also know how precious that is and how things can change on a dime. I want to hold onto everything that’s good close to me for as long as I can – and pass it along to the people I care about. That’s who I am at my core. All that’s good in my life starts with family, born and chosen.”
