‘Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood’ Sweater Drive has begun: Here’s how to give or get warmth this year

Want to help keep your Pittsburgh-region neighbors warm this winter?

The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh’s “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” Sweater Drive begins collecting sweater donations today at the museum. In past years, this annual sweater drive has collected approximately 50,000 sweaters for children and families in the Pittsburgh area during the last 26 years.

“We are thrilled to carry on the legacy of kindness inspired by Fred and Joanne Rogers by collecting sweaters and sharing them with those kids and families in need,” said Jane Werner, executive director of the museum. “Each year we are able to distribute thousands of sweaters, and we are so grateful for the support of the Pittsburgh community.”

This year’s drive continues now through Thursday, Dec. 18. Here are all the details:

What You Can Donate: Sweater donors are encouraged to drop off new or gently-used sweaters in all sizes (though children’s sizes are especially appreciated).

Where/When You Can Donate: You’ll find a donation bin located in front of the main entrance of the museum. Donations are accepted from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. daily. Bonus: If you drop off sweaters during the Museum open hours (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, though closed on some Wednesdays), you will receive one free admission pass for a return visit in the new year (some restrictions apply).

Creating Your Own Donation Drive: The Museum welcomes local schools, restaurants, hotels, companies, organizations and community groups to join the drive as satellite sweater collection locations this year. Interested in becoming a satellite location? Learn more here

Long-term collection partners offering satellite locations for donation include YogaSix South Hills, Club Pilates South Hills, StretchLab Mt. Lebanon and others. Find details here about donating at those locations.

Want to Help Distribute Sweaters? Organizations that wish to receive sweaters to distribute to those in need can email hi@pittsburghkids.org. The museum doesn’t distribute directly to individual families or resale organizations.
