Maker Monday: Summer Fireworks

Kids love watching the night sky light up with cracking fireworks. This week’s Maker Monday offers a fun way to paint a Summer Fireworks landscape using an unusual, homemade paintbrush.

Supplies:

Construction paper, dark blue or black

Poster paint

Cardboard tubes

Scissors

Paintbrush

Cut around one end of a cardboard tube about 2 inches deep, keeping each cut close together. Bend the cut pieces back all the way around to form the “bristles” on your brush.

Paint a cityscape, allowing enough room for the sky, which will be filled with fireworks. Add paint to a pan and daub with the cardboard tube brush to create the firework blooms.

Layer the colors, beginning with darker shades and ending with lighter colors. Your masterpiece is ready for framing — or at least suitable for hanging on the refrigerator!
