Maker Monday: Paper People

Maker Monday plays with paper this week to create Paper People.

Molly Kilbridge, manager of community and family learning at The Frick Pittsburgh, shared this project that connects to a new exhibition opening on Oct. 13. “Fashioning Art From Paper,” will showcase the life-size paper dresses created by artist Isabelle de Borchgrave.

Little artists at home can create their own paper dolls, and maybe even make enough for their own mini-paper doll exhibition!

Kids can explore more paper-based fun at free exhibit-related events at the Frick. On Oct. 20, families will be inspired to create with origami during a paper artist stand-up show called Cirque du Papier. Registration required. Paper Explosion, a drop-in Second Saturday program, is planned for Nov. 10.

After folding the smaller paper, fold this piece in half and glue to the other folded paper.

Now you are ready to add the head. Put a piece of tape around the top to ensure it sticks. Cut out a round shape from a new piece of paper. Using a marker, decorate the face however you would like.

After attaching the head to the body, the last step is to add some hair. Fold a small piece of paper around the head and glue to keep in place.

If you like, you can attach the string to hang your paper person from a special place in your home. Or make a whole family of these dolls to string across a window.
