Kristine Sorensen wins Emmy Award for Kidsburgh stories

Kristine Sorensen of KDKA, one of our news partners, has been sharing Kidsburgh stories on CBS local television news for three years.

We’re happy to congratulate Kristine for winning her first Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for Best Feature Reporter for her work with Kidsburgh.

Kristine submitted three of her favorite Kidsburgh pieces from last year in the Human Interest category. Regular readers will remember these fun and touching stories.  They include:

  • A colorful story about a Kidsburgh Hero, Pittsburgh crossing guard Cathy Gamble, who sings the children across the street;
  • A moving piece about a boy with autism who learned to speak with the help of a special iPad from Variety the Children’s Charity, bringing Kristine to tears;
  • And a musical story on what it’s like to be a local, professional child actor in “CLO’s A Musical Christmas Carol,” including Kristine’s daughter.

The crossing guard and iPad stories were also picked up by the CBS News Facebook page and garnered more than 1 million views each, spreading Kidsburgh news across the country and beyond.

“I am honored and privileged to tell stories about all of the positive things in our community for kids and families,” said Kristine in her acceptance speech.

And we are honored to have her on our team. Congrats, Kristine!
