GMA hosts Pittsburgh midwife and her ‘Lean on Me’ performance at Magee

This story first appeared in NEXTpittsburgh, which publishes Kidsburgh.

Midwife Rachel Poerschke played the piano and sang Bill Withers’ “Lean on Me” in the lobby of UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital as a thank you to frontline workers and Pittsburghers who are helping to flatten the COVID-19 curve by staying home.

The performance quickly went viral, picked up by MSNBC, TV news stations and other media across the country.

Then on Friday, Rachel appeared on “Good Morning America” to discuss her performance and play a snippet of “Lean on Me.”

At the end of the interview, Dave and Aimee Anoia, owners of DiAnoia’s Eatery in the Strip District, appeared on the program to surprise Rachel and the hospital staff with a free lunch.
