Get swept up in the fun of history on the latest episode of the Kidsburgh Podcast

Andy Masich was a young boy when he fell in love with history. One summer, he began rummaging in the attic of an old Victorian house where his grandparents lived. It was a space full of dust, cobwebs and even some bats, but it also held treasures from as long ago as the Civil War. Soon, he was collecting Civil War memorabilia of his own and even using popsicle sticks to build models of the Monitor and Merrimack battleships.

In our Kidsburgh Podcast interview, Masich will get kids and grownups excited about discovering global, local and their personal history. And he shares about the remarkable things they’ll find at the Heinz History Center, where he serves as executive director.

“Pittsburghers really love their history,” Masich tells our hosts. “They love knowing more about their neighborhoods and their family traditions. Because in Pittsburgh, people have lived here for generations.”

To honor that interest, Masich was glad to come to the Heinz History Center: “I worked with the people of Pittsburgh to develop exhibits that were meaningful to them for kids and their families and grandparents.”

Learn all about that in Season 3, Episode 3 of the Kidsburgh Podcast. You’ll also learn how you can tour the historic Lawrence Mansion, located inside Hartwood Acres park. And  our Tea with Teens team interviews local high schoolers about how they connect with their own personal history.

You can listen to the entire conversation on Apple PodcastsPandora and Spotify, at the SLB website, or listen right here:
