Meadowcroft Fall Finale
October 27, 2018
To celebrate the conclusion of its 50th season, Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village in Avella, Pa., will host its Fall Finale on Saturday, Oct. 27 from noon to 5 p.m.
Meadowcroft will present fall-themed activities for the whole family. Visitors can enjoy cooking demonstrations in the Hamilton Log House, try their hand at cornhusk crafting at the 18th-century Frontier Trading Post, and test their skills with the atlatl – a spear-thrower used by prehistoric hunters – in a recreated 16th-century Monongahela Indian Village. Kids can bring their sweet tooth to taffy pulling parties at the King House for an additional $3 fee per participant. Space is limited for the taffy pulling, so reservations are required by calling 724-587-3412.
Throughout the day, Meadowcroft guests can explore 16,000 years of history – from the prehistoric wonder of the Rockshelter, to a 16th-century Monongahela Indian Village, and through the lives of Upper Ohio Valley residents during the 18th and 19th centuries. In addition to experiencing living history, visitors can enjoy a stroll over the beautifully restored Pine Bank Covered Bridge, winner of a 2018 Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Award.
Except for taffy pulling parties, all Fall Finale activities are included with Meadowcroft admission: $15 for adults, $14 for senior citizens, and $7 for students and children ages 6-17. Children ages 5 and under are free.
