Kids Nutrition Kitchen is teaming up with dietetic graduate student Kelsey Rife to offer a series of classes for active young people. In each age-appropriate session, participants will have fun creating nutritious and delicious snacks and meals to help them run fast, jump high, throw far, and improve energy, strength, stamina and focus.

Sunday, March 3 | Marathon Meal
Going the distance is all about getting enough of the right stuff in our bodies. Active young people need plenty of carbohydrates combined with moderate protein and minimal fat/fiber. What does this mean in terms of real food that is not only nutritious but also delicious? Participants will learn how to prepare the perfect marathon meals to help them cross the finish line in record time
Sunday, March 10 | Snack Attack
School’s out and lunch was hours ago. What are the best snacks to get a busy young person through a scrimmage, practice session or dance class? Learn what not to eat and what to always pack in the gym bag. Fruits, grains, veggies and other nutritious snacks have never looked or tasted as appetizing as they will in this hunger-busting class.
Sunday, March 17 | Hydration Station
If our bodies were engines, water would be the oil that keeps everything running smoothly. Active bodies need even more water to keep that engine moving. In this class, we’ll learn how much sugar is in pop and sports drinks, why it’s important to choose water over beverages with sugar, and why we need to fill up all day, every day. The menu includes fruit waters and quick and easy snacks filled with fruits and veggies that have a high water content.
Sunday, March 24 | Recovery Meal
The game is over. The race is won. A pizza party with the team is fun, but there are better ways to refuel after a hard day of play. Incorporating some of their favorite foods, participants will learn how to combine all five food groups into a satisfying and filling meal that offers a balance of lean protein, carbs and fat and prepares them to go out and give it their all the next day.
