Daniel Tiger’s new digital game helps prep kids for a positive experience at the dentist

It’s not always easy to bring a child to the dentist. But dental health is important, so starting kids off with good experiences can set the stage for a lifetime of consistent dental care.

This month is National Children’s Dental Health Month, which makes it the perfect time to try the new free digital game from “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.” The game, called “Daniel Tiger: At the Dentist,” was developed with consultation from the American Academy for Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD).*

In this replayable game, kids can get familiar with the sights and sounds of various instruments and processes at a dental office through relaxing, interactive play with Daniel and Mr. Dino. The game also encourages kids to brush their teeth for two minutes, as recommended by the AAPD.

“Daniel Tiger: At the Dentist” launches on Feb. 17 at the “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” website.

As parents consider dental care for their kids, it’s valuable to know:

  • Tooth decay is the number one chronic childhood disease in the U.S. – even more common than childhood obesity, asthma and diabetes. Good oral care habits and routine visits with a pediatric dentist can help prevent tooth decay.
  • It’s important to establish an oral care routine by age 1, including regular check-ups by a specially trained pediatric dentist. Find a pediatric dentist near you with AAPD’s Find a Dentist tool.
  • During snack time, try to moderate sugar intake and acidic drinks, like juice and soda that erode teeth. Opt for cheese, fresh fruits and yogurt.
  • You can visit mychildrensteeth.org for more resources and to find a pediatric dentist near you.
