Common Sense Media’s guide to 23 comforting books for kids

Our friends at Common Sense Media have created a list of nearly two dozen books that can bring comfort when things feel a bit overwhelming.

“The books on our list show young characters whether animal or human — feeling loved and valued, getting through difficulties with the aid of friends and family, and showing resilience,” the Common Sense team writes. “Many of these books make great read-alouds, too, at bedtime or anytime.”

The suggestions range all the way from beloved stories like “Guess How Much I Love You” and “The Runaway Bunny,” which parents can read over and over to babies and toddlers, all the way up to books that kids ages 8+ can read on their own, like “Things Seen From Above” and the comedic graphic novel “Frazzled: Everyday Disasters and Impending Doom: Book 1.”
