Common Sense Media: These movies will get kids into a back-to-school frame of mind
Our friends at Common Sense Media share useful details on everything from movies and TV shows to books, podcasts and video games that families will want to know more about. We were excited to see that right now on their free app, their “Summer Slide Survival” offerings include suggestions for school-related movies that can get kids thinking about the back-to-school experience.
There are lots of ways to get excited about the back-to-school season (watching Jimmy Fallon and Lin-Manuel Miranda play a medley of “Hamilton” songs on classroom instruments is one fun way to do it), and we love the idea of adding school-related movies to the mix.
There are options for every age group. Among the possibilities they suggest:
Emily’s First 100 Days of School (ages 3+)
Monsters University (ages 5+)
Akeelah and the Bee (ages 8+)
Sky High (ages 8+)
High School Musical (ages +) and its sequels
Diary of a Wimpy Kid (ages 9+)
Mr. Holland’s Opus (ages 10+)
School of Rock (ages 10+)
Drumline (ages 12+)
Tall Girl (ages 12+)
Stand and Deliver (ages 13+)
The Great Debaters (ages 13+)
Kids may also love The Magic School Bus: Frizz Connection (ages 6+) and the other Magic School Bus titles.
