Celebrating random acts of kindness: Tell Kidsburgh about the Kind Kids in our community.

Sometimes the best parenting moments come upon us out of the blue, when we see our child do something kind for another person. Maybe it’s as simple as sharing a toy or giving a much-needed hug to a grandparent, or when a shy child makes an effort to talk with someone who needs a friend. Or maybe it’s something bigger, like when a child volunteers to help out a neighbor or a teenager takes a public stand on an issue like social justice.

Even though our world can be a difficult place, these acts of kindness and caring make a difference. They make our communities better and they promote the one thing we all need more of — joy.

This month, our guest editor Tom Ralston shared with all of us an essay about finding joy in learning and in family life. We’re going to be focusing on the subject of joy throughout the month of September here at Kidsburgh. And to kick that off, we have an invitation for you.

We invite you to tell us about a child who has done an act of kindness that made you smile. Their action might be something big, but it also might be a small gesture that has powerful meaning.

We want to recognize these young Pittsburghers as “Kidsburgh Kind Kids,” in the spirit of the #bethekindkid initiative and the amazing JAM Clubs that keep the kindness going at schools throughout the Pittsburgh area. Parents and other caring adults can use this online form to tell us about a child who has made an effort to spread kindness in our community. You’re welcome to nominate kids of any age, up through age 17.

We look forward to writing about as many of these submissions as possible. And to celebrate the good work that our Kidsburgh Kind Kids do, each child who is recognized as a Kidsburgh Kind Kid will receive a #bethekindkid t-shirt!
