#bekind21

#BeKind21 has begun! Here’s how you and your kids can get involved.

If you notice an uptick in kindness happening around Pittsburgh in the coming days, this might be the reason: For the next 21 days, organizations and families around our region will be participating in #BeKind21.

Want to get involved? Each day from now until Sept. 21, the #BeKind21 will be sharing a suggestion for cultivating kindness. Do as many as you’d like, and share the experience with your kids.

The #BeKind21 campaign is a collaboration between local participants here in Pittsburgh (including Kidsburgh, the Center for Loving Kindness, the Children’s Museum and Museum LabJAMbethkindkid, Inc.WQED and Gregg Behr and Ryan Rydzewski, the authors of When You Wonder, You’re Learning) and Lady Gaga’s national Born This Way Foundation.

Get all the details here.

Lots of local families are getting involved to share thoughts on kindness, and local students have joined the campaign as well.

Yesterday, as part of #BeKind21, members of Avonworth Primary School’s JAM Be the Kind Kid group made placemats to give to Emsworth Meals on Wheels recipients. (Check out KDKA’s coverage of this act of kindness and see Kristine Sorensen’s interview with the authors of “When You Wonder, You’re Learning.”)

And the kindness continues: Tomorrow afternoon, a 10-year-old student named Mason Creagh will be delivering cookies and cards he made for local firefighters and bus drivers.

#BeKind21What’s today’s action? For Sept. 1, you and your kids can take a minute to think of someone who has helped you grow. It’s a great way to notice the kindness that has existed around you, and it might just inspire you and your kids to spread that kindness to others.

And there’s plenty of #BeKind21 fun planned for the Labor Day weekend: The graphic below shares the actions for Sept. 2, 3 and 4.

The #BeKind21 21-day calendar offers three weeks of easy acts of kindness for kids and their families.
