Beanstalk HQ combines daycare and coworking space, perfect for remote-working parents

Earlier this year, a new resource for parents opened in Wexford: Beanstalk HQ is a daycare center, co-working space and coffee shop where parents can get remote work done, meet up with friends or just take a break while their kids are playing.

Beanstalk HQ, which opened in February, offers a cheerful play space staffed with adults who can lead kids through creative projects (including themed craft projects each month) or free play. It’s a large, sunny space with areas designed for tiny tots and also bigger kids.

“On Wednesdays, we do science experiments and Fridays is music and movement,” says Hannah Ledrick, administrative and event coordinator at Beanstalk HQ. “So we’re doing different activities and things with the kids on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and then Tuesdays and Thursdays are open, free play. The kids don’t have to participate, but obviously there’s that option for a little bit more engagement.”

There are also plenty of options for imaginative play, Ledrick says. Kids will find costumes for dress up, Barbies, LEGOs, Hot Wheels cars and much more.

For parents, there is a co-working space with multiple desks and also two soundproof booths for private phone calls or phone meetings. If you opt not to purchase a co-working pass, you can also work or relax in the cafe area, where snacks and drinks are available.

Here’s how Beanstalk HQ works:

Safety and security are priorities. When you arrive, parents fill out a waiver (if it’s their first time), then parents and kids have their pictures taken and get coordinating wristbands.

Kids then get settled in the supervised play area and parents head to the co-working space or cafe.

Unlike most daycare centers, parents are welcome to check in on their kids throughout the day as often as they wish. And there are no long-term contracts, so parents can use the space just occasionally or more often.

Kids can climb on play equipment in the supervised play space.

On weekdays, you can get a pass for the morning (9am to noon) or afternoon (1pm to 4pm) session. The play area is great for rainy days when kids are eager for some exercise and physical play, and there is also space for quiet, creative activities.

The Beanstalk founders are all parents themselves, so they know the challenge of balancing work with raising kids. They’ve created the kind of place they wish they had when their own kids were small. Learn more here.
