Assemble Community Space in Garfield

Assemble is a community space located in Garfield’s Penn Avenue Arts District. This nonprofit organization is  dedicated to fostering creativity through connecting local artists, technologists and makers with inquisitive learners of all ages. It offers a number of youth-friendly, FREE programs designed to teach STEAM principles (science, technology, engineering, art and math) to our children:

Assemble Afterschool: Assemble offers a free afterschool program for students in grades 1-8 every Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6pm. Each session includes educational “making” activities, homework help and a healthy snack. A $50 donation is greatly appreciated to help purchase supplies.

Saturday Crafternoons: Assemble holds a free drop-in Saturday Crafternoon program for students in grades 1-8 and their families every Saturday from 1-4pm. Each session includes a craft workshop led by a local artist, maker or technologist.

Youth Maker Night: On the second Friday of each month from October-May from 5-7pm, teens and tweens can hang out and work on a craft project together.

Teens as Teachers: This new program is a series of weekly workshops where teens learn how to teach a topic of interest to them.

Unblurred: Assemble hosts an open gallery event from 7-10pm during Unblurred, the Penn Ave. Arts District’s First Friday Gallery Crawl each month. Each month’s event includes an interactive activity and kid-friendly snacks.

Birthday Parties: Assemble also hosts birthday parties on a contract basis. Each birthday party includes use of the space for 2 hours, Assemble facilitators leading a fun, hands-on activity and take-home gift bags. Contact julia@assemblepgh.org for more information.
