10 Things to do this weekend, from the St. Patrick’s Day parade to an ice show

There’s a slew of great things happening this weekend, most notably one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the country. Whether you are in the mood to hunt for leprechauns, visit a library, or take in a play, there are plenty of options this weekend:
Friday, Mar. 10: Legomation Half-Day Camp, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
For families looking for a way to fill this Friday afternoon, this half-day camp at Assemble is for kids in grades 1 and 2. Learn how to build with bricks and then animate your creations. The cost of the camp is $25, and is free for Garfield residents. There is after-care available until 5 p.m. More information can be found here.
Saturday, Mar. 11: Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day Parade, 10 a.m.
For the Irish or the Irish at heart, this full day of activities is a great way to fill a weekend day. The day kicks off at 8 a.m. with events running until 5 p.m. The main event, the parade, begins at 10 a.m. This is one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the county, with over 1/5 of residents in Pittsburgh claiming Irish heritage. Saturday, Mar. 11: Kids Club at Carnegie Library Main, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
At the Main (Oakland) Carnegie Library, kids in grades K-5 can enjoy arts, crafts, storytime, and more. Make a new friend, take home a new book. This event is free and more details can be found here.
Saturday, Mar. 11: Women Forging the Way at the Heinz History Center, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
For Women’s History month, join a guided tour that highlights how women in Pittsburgh have shaped and changed the city. This tour is free with admission, but you must register at the front desk when you arrive. Don’t forget, the Heinz History Center is included in the Museums for All program which offers discounted admission. Find out more details here.
Saturday, Mar. 11: Science Adventures: Ancient Egypt, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Come to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Hazelwood location for a deep dive into ancient Egypt with the experts from the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Elementary-aged kids will enjoy touching and exploring replicas of artifacts while they learn. This event is free.
Sunday, Mar. 12: “Pinnochio” at the Gemini Children’s Theater, 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Enjoy this classic story on stage at the Gemini Childrens’ Theater, where the performances are interactive (that’s right, the cast will involve willing kids in the show!) This event takes place at the Sto-Rox Libary and Ryan Arts Center, where masks are strongly encouraged but not required. Tickets are $5 for kids age 3 and younger, and $15 for everyone else. Saturday, Mar. 11 and Sunday, Mar. 12: Habitat Heroes at the National Avaiary, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Don’t miss this speical show, which requires a separate ticket in addition to admission to the National Aviary. Learn about bald eagles and other impressive birds during this immersive experience where birds will fly freely overhead. Find out more information about the show on the aviary website. You can catch this show both weekend days, and on weekdays excluding Tuesdays.
Thursday, Mar. 9 to Saturday, Mar. 11: Le Patin Libre Ice Show
This contemporary ice-skating company from Montreal has developed a new work, “Carte Blanche,” specifically for Pittsburgh. Tickets start at $15 and the show will be at the UPMC Rink at PPG Plaza. Find out more information here.
Friday, Mar. 10 to Sunday, Mar. 12: “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”
On a rainy day in London, four children step through a magical wardrobe — and so it begins. Prime Stage Theater presents the beloved C.S. Lewis story at the New Hazlett Theater. A sensory-inclusive performance is planned for March 11 and an audio-description show happens on March 12. Tickets start at $18
Friday, Mar. 10 to Sunday, Mar.12: Pittsburgh Home and Garden Show
This event is jam-packed with activities for every age. Check out the latest options for home remodeling while also checking out pet exhibits, model railroads, Steel City LUG Lego displays, a children’s village with craft activities, and more. Tickets begin at just $4, and kids under 6 are free.
