The headline on a travel story this past weekend read: “Pittsburgh lives up to its new nickname, Kidsburgh.”

Writer Kara Murphy visited Pittsburgh with her husband and two children, ages 5 and 7, for a story for The Erie Times-News.

The verdict from Murphy’s daughter: “That was the best weekend ever!”

Their three-day getaway brought the family to Pittsburgh for the first time. Guided by suggestions from Visit Pittsburgh, they made stops at Carnegie Science Center (“Each floor had its own wonders.”); the Children’s Museum (“Around every corner was another terrific discovery.”); Randyland (“We had fun exploring the grounds, a fantasyland of color and art.”); and Carnegie Museum of Natural History (“The full-sized dinosaur skeletons were awesome.”).

They even rode the Duquesne Incline to admire the view from Mount Washington.

“We had jammed our weekend full of fun, but we didn’t get to do so much more — like the National Aviary, the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, the Mattress Factory and the Andy Warhol Museum,” wrote Murphy.

“But that’s OK, because there will definitely be more best weekends ever.”
