Kidsburgh teams up with KDKA for even more kid-friendly stories

As Kidsburgh and KDKA launch a new partnership, KDKA reporter and Pittsburgh Today Live host Kristine Sorensen offers her enthusiasm for Pittsburgh as a great place for raising kids and why she’s excited to share her stories here on Kidsburgh.org.
I fell in love with Pittsburgh the first time I visited back in 1999 — dancing among the silver clouds at the Andy Warhol Museum, taking in the view after Mass at St. Mary on the Mount and scarfing down pizza at Church Brew Works. Now that I’ve made this place my home with my husband, I’m even more excited to share my love of the area with our children, discovering things in a new way through their eyes.
This is why I’m so excited to partner with Kidsburgh. My kids are now 11, 9 and 6, and we love to explore the city and the region, whether it’s a museum, a hiking trail or a show. And Kidsburgh makes it so much easier to be on top of what’s happening for families.
I’ve been using the Kidsburgh website for years. In fact, my daughter took a summer camp for computer coding that I learned about from the Kidsburgh story about unique summer camps for kids. It was only 10 minutes from our house, but I never even know about it until Kidsburgh introduced me!
And this summer, Kidsburgh’s story on the summer bucket list for Pittsburgh parents inspired my family to create our own summer bucket list. It included some stops on the Kidsburgh list like Idlewild, Klavon’s Ice Cream, the Children’s Museum and Summer Fridays at the Frick. And we added some of our own like the Carrie Furnace, the Carnegie Science Center, the Laurel Caverns, the Killer Heels exhibit at the Frick and the Three Rivers Heritage Bike Trail on the South Side.
There are so many incredible stories to tell about the great work being done for kids and by kids in our region, and I can’t wait to bring them to you in my TV news stories every Wednesday on KDKA-TV News at 4 and on Pittsburgh Today Live on Thursdays at 9 a.m.
And for more in-depth conversations about the Kidsburgh stories, tune to NewsRadio 1020 every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. for my conversation with hosts Mangino and Shelley about the topic of the week. And watch KDKA-TV the first Thursday of every month on PTL for my interview with Kidsburgh Ambassador Yu-Ling Behr.
I hope my stories — which will be posted right here on Kidsburgh.org — will help you, teach you and inspire you to take advantage of all that the Pittsburgh region has to offer to help us be the best parents, grandparents and caregivers of our children we can be.
